Triathlon Regulations
- Athletes’’ are allowed to use the transition zone up until 15 minutes before the start of the Triathlon race.
- The race judges are responsible to certify that the athletes’ have all the equipment needed in good shape, before they enter the transition zone. More specific that they wear their helmet, time chip and swimming cap. They also check that the bike brakes are working and that all the number stickers are on the right place.
- The biking race will be non-drafting, which means that the athlete will be able to overtake but the distance between the two bikes has to be at least 12 meters. In case of drafting, the athlete will be disqualified.
- 30 minutes before the race starts, all the athletes have to gather in the pre-race area for the technical update of the race.
- The start of the race is the countdown and the sound of the horn. In case of an invalid start, the athlete is entailed to a penalty of one minute in the transition zone.
- The use of any kind of propulsion or breathing aids during swimming, are forbidden.
- The organizing committee allows the use of a wetsuit up to 4mm (this might change according to the sea temperature).
- Athletes should unmount the bike before entering the transition zone.
- Athletes should not mount the bike until they exit the transition zone.
- Athletes should keep their helmet on and tied for the whole biking race up until they leave their bikes in the transition zone.
- For the swimming route, buoys will be used. Everyone not swimming according to this route will receive 1-minute penalty and will be shown in the penalty box.
- All athletes should respect the fellow athletes
- Every athlete has its own place in the transition zone. All stuff should be placed in the basket provided, while the helmet should be placed on the steering of the bike. All other stuff or athletic bags are not allowed in the transition zone. In case of a messiness caused by an athlete a penalty of 10 seconds will be received.
- Each athlete competes on its own and no help is allowed.
- If an athlete fails to follow the rules of the race, he or she might be eliminated.
- Relay: 1) the swimmer gets out of the sea and enters the transition zone where he or she hands over the timing chip in order for the next athlete to start biking. 2) when the biker finish the bike race, enters the transition zone and hands over the timing chip to the next athlete. 3) the last athlete as he/ she finished the running race passes through the finish arch were the race ends. In the case when the transitions are not being done correctly the team will receive 10 minutes penalty.
- All athletes should wear their number on their triathlete zone.
- All athletes should wear their caps during swimming
